Easing Into Autumn Decorating

Easing Into Autumn Decorating

When it’s not quite Halloween but you’re excited for the fall season, there are many ways to slowly transition your home into the month of October. If you can hold off, I recommend skipping the creepy Halloween decorations for just a little longer. Here are my tips for autumn decorating:

  1. Fill vases with fall florals. That would include sunflowers, globe amaranth, orange and yellow zinnias, goldenrod, pumpkin on a stick and marigolds. The colors that naturally come out in seasonal flowers happen to be traditional autumn colors! How convenient!

  2. Place gourds and unique pumpkins around your home. Visit your local farmers market or pumpkin patch and look for Cinderella, Baby Boo, Blue Doll, and Peanut Pumpkin varieties. They add unexpected color and character to any corner of your home.

  3. Stock up on sugar pie pumpkins and use them as decor until it’s time to bake. They will last for months in your home before going bad!

  4. Mums. Everyone loves mums! They’re abundant right now at every grocery store, market and garden center and look great near your front door or on the steps of your home.

  5. Gather branches and fallen leaves to arrange into a vase. Unlike flowers, these won’t wilt or die! Spray them lightly with hairspray to help hold the leaves in place. And I like to tell myself the hair spray is an extra safe way to prevent bugs from coming inside with the branches.

And because I do love Halloween, I will be back in a week to help you shift the autumn decor into something a little spookier!
