designing with bodega flowers

While I prefer to only use flowers grown by myself or a trusted farmer, today I wanted to play with flowers and I couldn’t wait! Its late January and there are no flowers blooming anywhere in the Northeast. So, I walked down the the corner and bought some bodega flowers. They were $5 a bunch, and they were beautiful. I fully believe in doing whatever you need to do in order to smile during the wintertime!

some tips for choosing and arranging flowers from the grocery store:

  • chose a color palette

  • chose a statement flower, accents, and greenery

  • when you bring the flowers home, put them right in water… even if its just your sink

  • remove any leaves that would be under the vase water line

  • give each stem a fresh cut

  • begin with the greenery to build the shape and add flowers

  • you can measure the stems against the vase before you cut to the length you want

who knew how beautiful carnations could be!
