How To Make Real Evergreen Garland

How To Make Real Evergreen Garland

When you are making your own real evergreen garland, it’s nice to have different types of evergreen. Short and long needles, some with berries and different shades of green accentuate the texture and scents you’ll be adding to your home.

There are a few ways to find evergreens to use; your local tree lot, tree farm, or backyard! If you are at a farm or tree lot don’t assume that they just “give away evergreen scraps”. They may already be providing the greens for a local florist, so always offer some money. You can ask if they have any “cull trees to purchase” which means their live trees that are unsuitable for selling. Our local tree lot had a box labeled “Free Branches” for anyone to take from. It was a nice surprise! And if you are cutting evergreens from your own yard, be sure not to over cut and don’t cut until a frost as hit them. This helps the needles stay on longer. And never cut from a strangers yard with out asking first!

Tools you will need:
at least three full evergreen branches
hand pruners
natural coiled wire
paddle floral wire in green
