Halloween Spaghetti
It’s still October and I’m back with another Halloween party snack idea. At any gathering, I love to have something a little more substantial for my guests beyond finger foods. A pasta or salad can be perfect for this, and since it’s Halloween time, I had fun personalizing this dish for the season.
You could make any old cold pasta salad, or you can make creepy spaghetti! The only difference is the color. Instead of plain spaghetti, try black squid ink pasta! This can be found online or at any specialty grocer. Cook as your specific instructions advise and reserve a cup of cooking water to mix back into pasta.
Toss spaghetti with olive oil and orange vegetables. Be creative with veggies you and your guests prefer! I add orange tomatoes, shredded carrots and orange peppers. The pasta will already be saltier than you may be used to, so salt cautiously. If you’d like, toss in some crumbled feta.
When you are presenting your treats at a themed party, be sure to keep the serving dishes and utensils on theme. For my Halloween party, the color palette included shades of orange, grey, black, red, and white. The pasta serving bowl I used wasn’t Halloween themed, it was actually a bowl I use all the time in my kitchen, but it was black and white. The skeleton arm serving utensils I found at a dollar store and while you never know what you are going to find there, party stores are pretty reliable during the holidays and I found the same pair here.
Most people recommend that you refrain from trying new recipes for party guests, but I disagree. Parties are the perfect opportunity to add a new recipe among your classic standbys! I may never make black pasta again til next October, but it looked cool for one night and was a fun addition to the party spread.
