my first indie film

My incredibly talented friend Christina Rabago is an actor, writer, producer, director… she does it all. When she told me about her production company and the script she had been working on I asked her to put me to work. I have two brothers that make movies and I know how tough film making can be and even the smallest indie film takes a ton of money. Plus, I’ve always had a love for movies and filmmaking in a totally out of reach sort of way.

And being put to work meant becoming a production assistant and I was all about running the errands. The only production experience I had was in a live political newsroom, but I figured it couldn’t be too tough. As an avid to-do list maker, I did not mind helping out wherever I could and dashing through the city with someone else’s credit card and shopping bags. Even picking up Dunkin coffee in the morning and juggling it with boxes of donuts through the streets of Brooklyn was a fun adventure I didn’t mind waking up on a Saturday for. There was also calling car rental places, arranging lunch and setting up crafty. Someone’s gotta do the little chores and I was happy to help out one of my best friend as she poured her heart into a very personal short film.

Part two began filming a few months later and I was so happy that Christina took me back! Day two on set I found myself in the bathroom steaming all of the costumes for the extras and making sure they looked good before they went on set and keeping all the costumes clean. It seems like such a small task but I felt like I fit in there surrounded by all the outfits and decided to ask Christina if I could work on costumes for the next day. That was it! I loved styling and wardrobe design!

After we wrapped I posted a photo from set on instragram and a friend contacted me about being a wardrobe assistant on a Netflix movie being filmed in Cleveland. I just about fainted. Some days its all about hard work and other days all about connections and putting it out in the universe. With a little bit of both, I found myself working in the wardrobe department of a major film a few days later. Its funny how the world works and I can’t wait to share that story with you soon!
